The 2013 24 Hour Musicals
JOIN US FOR THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE
THEATRICAL EVENT OF THE YEAR
CURRENT PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE:
On Monday, April 29, 2013, The 24 Hour Company teams up with the Exchange to produce the fifth ever 24 Hour Musicals. Four short (15 minute), brand-new musicals will be written, cast, rehearsed, and performed at The Gramercy Theatre over the period of a single day, featuring an all-new all-star line up of Broadway performers, stars from TV and film, great composers and writers, directors and -- to top it all off -- choreographers and musical directors. The participants will be a who’s who of American musical theatre and film, TV and music, collaborating, crashing, conspiring, and cramming to perform four new musicals in one day.
Like its cousin the 24 Hour Plays, The 24 Hour Musicals have been a sell out success for the past four incarnations, with over 100 wonderful stars of stage and screen already taking part. Past participants of the show include America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Mo Rocca (CBS), Debby Boone, Cheyenne Jackson (30 Rock), Rachel Dratch (SNL), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Anthony Rapp (RENT), Kathleen Turner, Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives), Richard Kind (Mad About You), Steven Pasquale (Do No Harm)... and many, many more. The show was the subject of its own documentary, ONE NIGHT STAND, which has been a film festival favorite and has run on more than 500 screens nationwide.
Proceeds from The 24 Hour Musicals support the Orchard Project, the development center run by the Exchange. Simply put, the Orchard Project is where the best theatre companies go to develop their new ideas. The Orchard Project birthed the Tony-winning 33 Variations on Broadway and Obie- winning The Shipment and Architecting -- and last season, shows at the Royal Court in London, The Public Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Humana Festival and Yale Rep were all developed at the Orchard Project. In just six years, it has become a preeminent place for theatre companies and artists to develop new projects, and twice the New York Times has featured the Orchard Project as a leader in new theatre development.
